At this special event we’ll have Nabila Farhat, from the talent team at Square, facilitating a presentation and workshop on resume/CV writing for entry-level and junior developers.
Nabila will start with a 20 minute presentation about the key aspects of a resume, what will draw a recruiters attention, what can trigger their unconscious bias when reviewing a resume, and an overview of how your resume is likely to change as your career progresses. This will be followed by a Q&A session, before a 90 minute workshop where you will be able to get help and guidance to prepare your resume to give you the best chance at gaining an interview. As the workshop nears its end some of the mentors from Code Mentoring will be available to talk about the roles you’re applying for and your suitability for them.
This presentation and workshop will be tailored for those seeking entry-level and junior developer roles. To get the most value from the workshop we recommend bringing an editable, digital copy of your current resume; key points from ads for the type of roles you would apply for (eg skills requirements, role titles, type of company); and a willingness to think about how your existing skills can apply to these jobs.
By the end of this workshop we hope you will have a good understanding of entry-level and junior IT recruitment in Australia, a resume that will help you get an interview, and confidence that the roles you’re applying for are attainable.
After the workshop you are welcome to stay for the remainder of the normal Code Mentoring meetup, either to dive back into code or to continue working on your resume.
As this is only the second formal Code Mentoring event we’d love your feedback. Tell us what we did well, what we didn’t do so well, and what you got out of the event. You can send us feedback on the Code Mentoring Slack group, to any of the organisers via LinkedIn, or even in person after the workshop.
We will not be accepting guests to this event. If you have a friend who would like to come please get them to respond via Meetup. RSVPs will close at 5pm on Wednesday, 17th July.
Please note: Neither Nabila, nor the organisers will be recruiting at this event. We will not be delving into interview skills either. Instead we will be doing everything we can to help you prepare a resume and identify appropriate jobs so you can get callbacks from recruiters and get the job interviews you want. By attending this Meetup you are agreeing to receive updates about news, programs, and special events from our venue partner General Assembly.
