Speaker 1: Dr. Kyle Turner - CEO, Pearlii

Dr Kyle Turner, a Wiradjuri man from central NSW, is founder and CEO of Pearlii, a dental technology startup based in Melbourne.

It aims to improve oral health around the globe via free dental check-ups using AI computer vision and your smartphone camera. Kyle has raised $1.25M seed investment to date, while he dreams of Pearlii becoming the Who Gives A Crap of dental care with 50% of profits paying for treatment for people who can't access or afford a dentist.

Prior to building Pearlii, Kyle was a lecturer in epidemiology at the University of Melbourne, which followed his PhD at the University of Oxford.

----- Speaker 2: Phoebe Gardner, Co-Founder & CEO, Bardee

Phoebe Gardner is Co-founder and CEO of Bardee, a Victorian-based agri-tech startup transforming food waste into high-quality organic fertiliser, and protein for pet food and animal feed, with insects. Every tonne of food waste diverted from landfill by Bardee offsets 1,900kg of CO2e emissions.

Alongside Entomologist, CTO and Co-founder Alex Arnold, Phoebe, with a background in architecture, has built Bardee’s commercial pilot facility, Moonbase, in Sunshine North, into Australia’s largest insect breeding, protein and fertiliser facility. They are on a mission to reshape the global food system by transforming waste in 10,000 cities.

----- Speaker 3: Bronwen Clune - Web3 Founder & Artist, School of Crypto Art

Bronwen Clune has worked in senior levels across technology, innovation and media for the last 15 years. She launched a failed NFT art project at the height of the NFT frenzy - when even scam projects were minting out daily.

She shares what she's learnt about web3, the metaverse and NFTs - the good and the bad, and why despite losing significant money, sleep and sanity - she wholeheartedly believes in the opportunity that web3 brings for equality.

Currently, you can find her building the School of Crypto Art. https://soca.global/ Twitter: @bronwen_nft -----

At the end of each story, we have a bit of Q&A time where you’ll have a chance to ask questions- nothing too cheeky, but feel free to dig around.

----- A Collab with: Science Gallery Melbourne

Our hosts this month are the wonderful folk at Science Gallery Melbourne, as part of their brand new exhibition: SWARM.

ARE WE HARDWIRED TO BE PART OF THE PACK?

From Saturday 13 August 2022 you can enter SWARM, a space that uncovers the very essence of human behaviour and questions what drives us to be social.

Humans are not alone in our collective social behavior. From swarms of social insects, murmurations of birds, to molecular movements, swarming behavior underlies nearly everything.

Through a series of collaborative exhibits and projects, SWARM delves into the science and art behind what it means to be part of a pack. You’re encouraged to reflect on your role in the collective. Will you go it alone?

Or join the swarm? ---

Exploring the collision of art and science, and playing a vital role in shifting our understanding of science, art and innovation, Science Gallery Melbourne is part of the acclaimed Global Science Gallery Network, one of eight global nodes. Science Gallery Melbourne aims to involve, inspire and transform curious minds through arts and science, engaging 15-25 year olds.
