FuckUp Nights Melbourne - Stories About Failure event artwork

Welcome to FuckUp Nights Melbourne! We are back for November for our last event of 2019! We run this very unique storytelling event with a huge amount of people in Melbourne and Sydney attending our events to listen to stories of personal, business and project failure and the wisdom and resilience real humans learn from such experiences.

Free tickets here: https://melbfunnovember.eventbrite.com

FuckUp Nights is a global movement born in Mexico in 2012 to share public business failure stories with hundreds of people attending each event around the world.

The speakers will candidly share in 7-10 minutes:

  • What their project / business was
  • What went wrong / How it affected their personal life / What they learned / What they would do differently.

Speaker 1: Jen Sharpe - Founder and Managing Director, Think HQ Group

Jen Sharpe is Founder and Managing Director of the Think HQ Group - a PR and advertising business launched in 2010. Think HQ only works on projects that lead to positive social benefit. The team comprises of over 30 people. In 2018, she launched Lumin - an online capacity building platform for the grassroots community sector. And in 2019, she acquired CultureVerse - a diverse audience marketing agency.

Jen has grown the Think HQ group from the ground up having invested just $5k. She hasn’t taken on one cent of external investment. She studied Politics as her undergrad and then postgrad entrepreneurism. She also received a scholarship to complete an executive certificate in Venture Capitalism from Berkeley.

Speaker 2: Richard Adamson - Non-Executive Director, Young Henrys Richard’s passion for beer started with a home brew kit over 20 years ago and graduated to having his beers drunk in backyards across Australia, downed in New York bars and Beijing Pool Halls, and quaffed by the pint in English Pubs.

Richard went on to start Young Henrys in 2012 - Young Henrys is a brewery and distillery in the heart of creative Newtown. Its approach has been to be at one with its community and it has expressed this by embracing music, art and culture. This has seen the brewery collaborate to make unique brews with the likes of the Foo Fighters, FBi Radio, Kylie Kwong and the Art Gallery of NSW.

Speaker 3: Speaker 3: Lucio Ribeiro - Marketing and AI strategist and RMIT lecturer

Lucio is a public speaker, media commentator, university lecturer at RMIT and Deakin, mentor at Future Skills, former founder and MD of digital agency OnlineCircle.

He is also an adventurer, having gone from Buddhist temples in China to the heart of a humanitarian crisis in a refugee camp as a volunteer. With over 20 years of marketing experience, he's worked for McCann-Erikson, LoweLintas, MRM and Ogilvy until 10 years ago where he co-founded Online Circle Digital, growing to a 35 people agency servicing clients like Mercedes-Benz, Mondelez, Cadbury, Parmalat/Lactalis and more.

At the end of each person’s story, you’ll have a chance to ask questions- nothing too cheeky, but feel free to dig around. You’ll hear stories and advice you won’t get elsewhere - and these stories will (hopefully) put you in good stead to not make the same fuckups.
